Apocrypha

Chupacabra have two fingers and a thumb on each of their front paws. This fairly unique configuration makes them surprisingly excellent climbers and allows the pups to cling to their mother’s leathery skin. It also allows the adults to hold their prey in place as they feed.//

Chupacabra pups generally spend a majority of their early years hanging from their parents for warmth. As such, they’re quite capable climbers! Their front paws have opposable thumbs and their tails provide counterbalance. So cute!

Jam anomalies are rare, particularly on the outer layers of the Road, but well known enough to dissuade many from traveling by vehicle. Experienced travelers however, know methods of driving the Road safely. But we’ll learn more about that later.

The potential for escape, and all the terror it entails. Worn around the neck like an anchor, like a noose. It’s teeth bite hungrily into her chest. But she knows she’s merely the appetizer. Cold metal sits inches from her heart. A key can be a kind of lock of its own.

While radio signals can travel in and out of the Road, it takes a skilled operator to manage a coherent broadcast. Due to the strange nature of position on the Road, signals tend to “move” this can lead to radio waves arriving out of order. Information arriving before it’s context.

I kept the key. You were in such a hurry to throw me away you didn’t even notice I’d lifted it. I hope you never get another. I hope that locked door reminds you of me. If you want in, kick it down. I hope this hurts. I hope you break your foot.

Although rare, many report seeing random “displaced” signs in regions the road has passed through. Most disregard them as mere derelicts but some think they may be a method of communication. They believe them to be… Signs

The unique ecosystem of the Road contains an over abundance of parasitic and scavenger species. This suggests that in order to remain in balance, Road ecology relies on a constant influx of biomass. As such, the Road itself can be considered a parasitic ecosystem.

I was 15 when I first saw it. Snuck out for a late night smoke. Walking around because fuck, what else is there to do? There was an intersection where there hadn’t been the day before. The asphalt didn’t match the dusty, beat-to-shit local streets. I ran home.

While it can be difficult to prove the existence of something as nebulous as love, it is undeniable that throughout the animal kingdom creatures form powerful bonds And while love can be hard to prove The omnipresence of loss is undeniable

The creature consumed his leg, forever incorporating he and it. Repairing Zeus’ wound. For this, Ahab pursued the leviathan to the very depths of hell. His Orphean pursuit costing both their lives. In ways incompatible, both loved.

A submersible’s active sonar is powerful enough to kill any creature that swims too close. Do marine animals, in the moment they are obliterated, hear the sonar’s song? Is it love that drives us to search the heavens for other’s songs?

If there were an aquarium as large as the ocean, would the fish inside know they weren’t free?

Analog TV static is merely the visualization of signals already present all around us. There’s nothing in the static. Ignore the eyes. Ignore the mouths.

Much has been written about the direction of the road. Is it a pathway in to something? Or is it meant to be an exit for someone? This is, of course, a fool’s line of thought. One can easily tell just by looking at it that the Road is a two way street.

Sin eating, the practice of taking on the sins of the dead via consumption, has been documented on all 5 continents. What is it in our collective genetic memory, that links the ideas of eating and sin?

The Schrödinger’s cat thought experiment is generally misunderstood by the public. It was always a critique of Heisenberg’s idea of superposition. After all there’s no reason to believe observation of a subject changes them in any way. Such is the realm of gods

Pack animals, particularly young ones, when separated from their own kind, will seek out any kind of group they can. This can lead to hodgepodges of disparate species forming impromptu packs. These bonds, while unusual, can be just as strong or stronger as any other.

Sacrifices of blood and flesh are another strangely ubiquitous form of occultism found across the world. Why is it that humanity intrinsically believes bodily sacrifice can call upon the divine? Are we that self centered? Or perhaps, are we simply punishing ourselves for nothing?

The nature of these “stops” along the Road is unclear. A popular theory is that these are locations from the real that the Road has simply “scooped up” and deposited beside itself, others believe the Road is amalgamating locations as a sort of memory-

After the [REDACTED] incident, new methodologies were proposed for field agent psych evals.

In the interim, a new division was created to handle any similar situations

While they have no official name, they are colloquially known as the dog catchers.

While it’s theorized among travelers that the Road grows with each closure, this is unverified. Due to the [REDACTED] nature of the Road, and the inability of satellite imagery to capture it, the true size of the Road can only be measured by what it takes. ᴵ ᵗʰᶦⁿᵏ ᶦᵗˢ ᵍʳᵒʷᶦⁿᵍ ᵗᵒᵒ.

In the Real, atmospheric anomalies increase 146% during Road closures. This has led some to theorize that it’s possible Road exits are opening at high altitudes, and their snapping shut during closures causes pressure changes. The implications of this theory are hotly debated.

The intentionality of Road travel has wide ranging implications. If thoughts alter your destination, does that mean the Road can access our minds? Is it conscious? Are we unknowingly in conversation? Or perhaps the destinations aren’t changing, but we are.

Fortunately, Grey left (or was forced out of) the insular world of internet conspiracy forums. Now she chases the truth in some semblance of reality, with people around her to ground her flightier follies.

Anomalies are a rare but dangerous phenomenon of the Road. While no exhaustive documentation exists, travelers warn each other of dangers they survived, and what to look out for. This oral tradition however, is liable to pass folklore along as fact. Maybe it was once all folklore
